'Tallulah' Director to Remake French Comedy for Lionsgate (Exclusive)
Sian Heder will write and helm a remake of the critically acclaimed 'La Famille Belier.'
Sian Heder is set to write and direct a remake of the French dramedy La Famille Belier for Lionsgate.
The film follows the story of a young teenager who acts as an interpreter for her deaf parents and brother. When a music teacher discovers her gift for singing, she has to make the decision between staying on her family farm or the promise of college and a possible career in music. The pic was nominated for several Cesar and Lumières awards.
La Famille Belier will be the follow-up to Heder's Sundance selection Tallulah, which starred Ellen Page as a young drifter who takes a baby from a negligent Beverly Hills mother, played by Allison Janney.
Heder previously acted as a co-producer on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black. So it was a homecoming of sorts for her when the streaming service, a week ahead of the Park City, Utah, festival, picked up the rights to Tallulah, which is set to be released July 29. Prior to OITNB, she wrote for Ray Romano' TNT comedy Men of a Certain Age.
Heder is repped by ICM and Stone Genow.
