Talpa, Endemol dissolve joint venture

Endemol had intended to distribute Talpa formats

LONDON -- John de Mol's Talpa Media and global reality producer Endemol have nixed their plans for the multiterritory production and distribution of Talpa TV's formats, opting instead to go their separate ways "by mutual consent."

The plans, hatched in October 2007, gave Endemol exclusive rights to distribute such Talpa formats as "Divided," "I Love My Country" and "Vipers."

In May the companies further announced plans to launch a series of joint-venture production companies in major Endemol markets. It is understood that the outlook for the ventures had not proved sufficiently commercially viable, sources said.

For each individual country and market, "Talpa Media owner John de Mol wants to be able to determine himself whether it is best to work completely independently in distributing and producing TV formats; or to seek cooperation with existing production companies or strategic parties," Endemol said in a statement Tuesday.
