See Taraji P. Henson's New Glamour Cover
Cookie's looking real good.
The countdown to the Emmys is on, and Glamour is celebrating accordingly with the release of three covers starring standout TV actresses: Taraji P. Henson, Gina Rodriguez and Emma Roberts. The Empire actress stuns on hers, wearing a fitted orange frock with gold accessories.
Inside, Cookie Lyon talks about her Emmy nod, success and motherhood. Before the nominations were announced, Henson says, "Everybody kept saying to me, 'Have you cleaned your mantel off?' I said, 'Everybody chill.' " Clearly that nonchalant attitude worked in her favor.
As for the best moment in her life thus far, that came when she went to Paris for a screening of Empire's pilot episode. "Lee Daniels [the series' co-creator] brought me onstage. The audience stood up on their feet and clapped. I cried because, for so long in Hollywood, I've been told that black women don't do well overseas, that they can't open a film overseas. That moment for me was the best moment of my life. That's better than any trophy, any award, any nomination."
Unsurprisingly, Henson also shares that it takes a lot out of her to play Empire's bold leading lady. "Cookie is the reason I drink. (Laughs.) She uses every emotion inside of me," says the actress. "She uses everything."
