Taran Killam, the former Saturday Night Live player who appeared in Broadway’s Hamilton, has joined Kevin Hart in Night School.

Malcolm D. Lee is directing the Universal comedy that is being produced by Will Packer. Hart is also producing via his Hartbeat Productions.

Killam will play Stewart, the school’s principal, who rules the school with an iron fist.

An end of September start of production in Atlanta is being planned. School is set for release on Sept. 28, 2018.

James Lopez, head of motion pictures for Will Packer Productions, will executive produce. Universal senior vp production Kristin Lowe is overseeing production for the studio.

Hart, Harry Ratchford, Joey Wells and Matt Kellard wrote the script with Nick Stoller also putting a coat of paint on it.

Killam, who made a name for himself as one of the standouts on SNL for six seasons, was last seen playing King George III in the Broadway phenomenon Hamilton. He makes his directorial debut with Killing Gunther, a mockumentary action comedy that he wrote and also stars in opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cobie Smulders and Bobby Moynihan.  The film will be released on Oct. 20.

Killam is represented by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
