Tarlton tapped for Junos' Grealis honor

TORONTO -- Veteran Canadian concert promoter Donald K. Tarlton will receive the 2007 Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award at the upcoming Juno awards, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences said Wednesday.

Tarlton, who launched Donald K. Donald Prods. as a concert promotion company in 1966, will receive the industry tribute on March 31 as the Canadian music awards are handed out in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Tarlton merged Donald K. Donald with BCL Entertainment Corp. in 1991. He's also responsible for the 1969 launch of Aquarius Records, an independent music label whose artists include April Wine, Corey Hart, Sass Jordan, Serial Joe and SUM 41.

Past Walt Grealis award recipients include fellow Canadian concert promoter Michael Cohl, veteran rocker Ronnie Hawkins and 2006 recipient Bernie Finkelstein.
