Hairstylist Harry Josh reveals what influenced the sassy look and breaks down the perfect blow dry.

Many fans are probably already deep into Orange Is the New Black season 3, which was released on Netflix Thursday surprisingly six hours earlier than scheduled. And while we can’t wait to see what happens to the show’s star Taylor Schilling, fans got to see a more glamorous side of her at the hit show’s premiere, where she wore a sexy red cutout and collared Cushnie et Ochs dress and a textured bob.

The inspiration for her chic locks? "I was thinking Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ video meets messy, full-bodied bed head," says hairstylist Harry Josh, John Frieda international creative consultant and stylist to Rose Byrne and Kate Hudson

To create that look, Josh first used the new John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment while washing Schilling’s hair, then applied John Frieda Luxurious Volume Volume Building Mousse root to tip to give her more fullness and lift. Josh blow-dried the star’s hair with a flat brush, pulling sections up straight, blow-drying at the root and then finishing with a shot of cool air. Afterward, he quickly blow-dried each section with a round brush.

As for the perfectly messy texture, that Josh created with a 3/4 inch curling iron, around which he wrapped sections of hair, leaving the very ends straight to create a more modern and undone version of curls. The final touch was John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Day Hold Hairspray to keep it bouncy and shiny. The result: Locks that are definitely not attainable while in an orange jumpsuit.
