Ex-Teacher at Elite L.A. Girls School Charged With Sexual Abuse of Second Girl

Joseph Thomas Koetters pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A former teacher at Los Angeles' Marlborough School previously charged with sexually abusing a female student was charged with ten additional sex crimes involving a second girl on Monday.

The Los Angeles Times reports LA County Superior Court Judge Robert C. Vanderet increased Joseph Thomas Koetters' bail to $490,00 and ordered him not to have contact with the second student. The additional charges include five counts of sexual penetration with a foreign object and five counts of oral copulation.

The complaint alleges the crimes were committed against the then-underage girl between February and June 2004. Koetters pleaded not guilty. Koetters' attorney Leonard Levine declined to comment to the Times on the new charges.

Koetters formerly taught English at the prestigious all-girls prep school. In February he was charged with four felony counts against a person under 18: two counts of oral copulation and two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object. He allegedly had a yearlong sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student in 2000. The former student reported the incident in July 2014.

The head of the prep school requested to resign effective June 30, 2015, following an investigation that found she failed to properly respond to students' allegations against Koetters. Koetters left Marlborough in 2013 and resigned from a private school in Pasadena in July 2014 when allegations against him began surfacing.
