The nominee and actress sported a new approach to summer’s hottest hair look.

Loose locks and ponytails are all the rage at Teen Choice Awards, yet braids came out on top, thanks to Nina Dobrev’s fresh take on the twisted trend.

Dobrev hit the red carpet in a color-splashed Vionnet crop top and shorts combo, paired with an equally head-turning over-one-shoulder rope braid — the handiwork of Los Angeles’ Nine Zero One Salon co-owner Riawna Capri.

“We love to always do something new and something outside the box … and she loves her braids,” says Capri, who used KMS California products to hold the Dobrev’s side plait in place. “This braid is twisted — it literally looks like a rope,” she adds. “It has a spiral effect.”

The inspiration from the look came from Dobrev’s pre-award show fitting with stylist Ilaria Urbinati, during which she swept her hair to the side. The hairstylist and actress — who have worked together for more than eight years — decided to create “a more beautiful version of that” for the big day explained Capri.

Dobrev won choice TV actress in the sci-fi/fantasy category for her role in The CW’s The Vampire Diaries.
