Telenet has half a million digital IPTV viewers

Reports 26 mil VOD downloads since 2005

BRUSSELS -- Belgian cable company Telenet said Tuesday that it has half a million IPTV viewers on its digital service.

There have been 26 million VOD downloads since Telenet Digital TV launched in 2005. The company, controlled by John Malone's Liberty Global, said its IPTV success in the relatively small Belgian market was because of the low rental fee of the digiboxes (between $6 and $9), and the extensive variety of VOD on offer.

There are currently about 8 million IPTV subscribers in western Europe.
