Telenet snaps up cable operators, Interkabel
Will launch Telenet Digital TV in region on Oct. 15BRUSSELS -- Belgian cable operator Telenet on Wednesday completed its 599 million euro purchase of four regional cable operators and their joint TV venture Interkabel.
The operator will launch Telenet Digital TV in the Interkabel area on Oct. 15. The deal adds nearly 800,000 TV customers, bringing Telenet's total to about 2.5 million homes served.
Telenet -- controlled by John Malone's Liberty Global empire -- had 2007 revenue of $1.37 billion, up 15% on 2006's $1.2 billion, and net profit for 2007 rose to $30.5 million from $12.5 million.
