'They Came Together' Trailer: Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler Star in Satirical Rom-Com

Ed Helms and Cobie Smulders co-star in R-rated absurdist comedy from director David Wain.

Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler fall in love and fall down stairs in the first trailer for the satirical romantic comedy They Came Together.

The R-rated film is the story of how Joel (Rudd) and Molly (Poehler) meet and fell in love, which just happens to involve every possible rom-com convention you can think of. Stilted meet-cute? Offbeat friends offering bad advice? Female lead who falls down a lot? Yep, they're all here.

"You like fiction books?" a flabbergasted Molly asks Joel at a bookstore. "I never met anyone else who likes fiction! That is too funny."

Throughout the trailer, poor Molly's health is in constant jeopardy, whether she's taking a football to the face or a tumble down the stairs. It must be tough to be her HMO.

The film is directed by David Wain and co-written by Wain and Michael Showalter. The duo also co-wrote Wain's 2001 cult fave Wet Hot American Summer, which took similar jabs at summer camp films.
