Filmmaker Paul Haggis' interest in Haiti goes back to 2008, when he learned of the work of Rev. Rick Frechette who had long toiled in country's slums. Haggis formed Artists for Peace and Justice and has raised more than $7 million, securing commitments from an impressive list of celebrities to donate $50,000 a year for five years.

Established Yele Haiti in 2005, which works directly with Oxfam and others. Controversy over finances has dogged him, but he has raised more than $9 million.

Jimmy Jean-Louis
Haitian star of Heroes supports rebuilding efforts through his Hollywood United for Haiti and testified before a congressional panel in July. Also sits on APJ board.

Elton John
His Elton John AIDS Foundation has given more than $1 million to various organizations working in Haiti, which his staff visited in September.

Visited Haiti and gave $1 million to Doctors Without Borders.

Donated $250,000 to Partners in Health.

Sean Penn
Founded J/P HRO. Runs camp for more than 55,000 displaced persons in Port-au-Prince.

Pre-earthquake, created the Stiller Foundation, whose fundraising arm, Stillerstrong, has six school-building projects in Haiti. Has visited Haiti several times since the earthquake.
