Thirsty Reporter: Public School Designers Team Up With Moet & Chandon At New York Fashion Week
Their fashion label, known for laid back looks beloved by stars from Halsey to Priyanka Chopra and Naomi Watts, is creating edgy packaging for the bubbly stuff.
Moët & Chandon, luxe champagne purveyor since 1743, is getting a 2017 street wear makeover.
The buzzy designers from Public School are creating 3 limited edition bottles of Moët Nectar Impérial Rosé (the #1 selling rosé champagne in the U.S.) to mark the New York-based fashion brand’s 10th anniversary.
Designers Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell Osbourne will officially unveil the bottles at a celebration following their NYFW show on Sept. 10. "When you think about champagne, you think about Moët & Chandon, you think about celebration, and you think about nightlife," says Osbourne of why the duo wanted to work with champagne brand. He adds, "Moët really resonated with us as it’s all about celebrating life, and celebrating what’s happening right now. We’re interested in creating products that make up that whole other spectrum outside of fashion."
For inspiration, Chow & Osbourne used matte black, a fundamental color for their design team from Day 1, when they started out with the ambition to create the perfect leather jacket. "For many years black was a staple color throughout our collections, but it’s also part of our lifestyle. We wanted this bottle design to really speak to our way of life," explains Osbourne.
The 3 liter Jeroboam bottle also has hidden designs that when illuminated, expose the striking blush pink color of the champagne against the black bottle. "We applied the Public School aesthetic to the bottle, but we also took away some of those distinct elements that you typically find on the Moët bottle. We played with shapes and colors and really stuck to that design philosophy throughout the collaboration," says Chow. For the exclusive Jeroboam bottle design, as well as the limited-edition bottle shipper which includes all three bottles, Chow & Osbourne used fine black leather as a bespoke detail.
The collection will officially be available for purchase on October 1, ( 750ml; $59.99, and the limited edition case with all three bottles; $999), for a limited time on Sherry-Lehmann.com and at local retailers in cities including New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta and more.
