Thomas Roberts Hosts 'NBC Nightly News' as First Openly Gay Network Anchor: Twitter Reacts
His opening story was about Donald Trump criticizing John McCain.
Thomas Roberts made history behind the desk over the weekend.
Roberts, an MSNBC host, became the first openly gay anchor on a network news broadcast when he hosted NBC Nightly News on Saturday, The Advocate reports.
Roberts told The Advocate that it was a "huge honor" to anchor the program.
His lead story in the broadcast centered on Donald Trump's negative comments about John McCain. Incidentally, Roberts was set to co-host the Miss USA pageant until he dropped out following the flap over Trump's remarks about Mexican immigrants.
