'The Newsroom' star, Jake Robinson and Austin Pendleton topline Thomas F. Mazziotti's lighter take on a sociopath set for a February 2021 release.

Gravitas Ventures has nabbed the worldwide rights to Thomas F. Mazziotti’s The Mimic, a comedy that stars Thomas Sadoski, Jake Robinson, Austin Pendleton and Gina Gershon.

A theatrical and on demand domestic release is planned for Feb. 5, 2021.

"Mimic’s script really impressed. The way the cast brings the dialogue to life really captures the imagination and delivers a high dose of classic entertainment. We’re very excited to be working with Thomas F. Mazziotti to bring his film out to the public," Nick Royak, senior acquisitions manager at Gravitas Ventures, said in a statement.

The Mimic, which also stars Jessica Walter, M. Emmet Walsh, Jessica Keenan Wynn and Josh Pais, sees Sadoski's character befriended by a younger neighbor (Robinson) after he joins a local newspaper team.

In time, Sadoski's main character suspects his friend may be a sociopath and goes to extreme lengths to uncover the truth about him and his wife, who he eventually begins to fancy.

"Sociopaths have been portrayed as a shady bunch up until now. Inspired by true events, this confrontational comedy explores the uncharted territory of the lighter side of a sociopath,” says Mazziotti in a statement.

Gravitas Ventures' Royak negotiated the deal with Glen Reynolds from Circus Road films.
