THQ, DreamWorks Ani ink deal for games

Multi-year licensing agreement for upcoming animated films

NEW YORK -- THQ Inc. and DreamWorks Animation have struck a multi-year licensing agreement that gives the video game maker the exclusive worldwide rights to develop games based on upcoming animated films "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom" and "Puss In Boots," as well as CG animated TV show "The Penguins of Madagascar."

The two previously had done a deal that covers planned DWA release "MegaMind."

The companies didn't disclose financial terms.

For THQ, the deal underscores "our commitment to reinvigorating our portfolio of licensed games for kids and families with top global entertainment brands," said Doug Clemmer, THQ's executive vp, kids, family and casual games.

THQ plans to release games in conjunction with DWA's theatrical releases. It also expects to publish the first video games based on "The Penguins" during its fiscal year that starts April 1, 2010.
