THR Next Generation Asia to celebrate up-and-comers

The Hollywood Reporter next week will unveil its first Next Generation Asia event and honorees, recognizing 20 up-and-coming industry professionals and talent in Asian entertainment ages 35 and younger.

On March 13, THR's inaugural Next Gen Asia special issue will profile the achievements of these innovators. The Next Gen Asia inaugural party will be March 24 at the W Hong Kong in Kowloon during the 33rd Hong International Film Festival.

During the past 15 years, THR's Next Generation initiative has recognized 500 people in the U.S. entertainment industry, many of whom have gone on to become highly influential in their fields.

"The Asian entertainment industry itself represents the 'next generation' on a global scale," THR publisher Eric Mika said. "So it is only fitting that THR take the lead in identifying the rising stars of Asia."

Among the 20 professionals honored on the first Next Gen Asia list is BoA, already an Asian phenom with 20 million records sold. THR identifies BoA as the next global pop wonder to watch.

Next Gen Asia is held in association with the Hong Kong film fest, which attracts about 500,000 attendees as well as 4,500 media execs who attend its ancillary events: the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum and the Hong Kong Film and Television Market (Filmart). (partialdiff)
