Three People Killed in Pasadena Shooting

UPDATED: A suspect is in custody and police are searching nearby homes.

Three people are dead and a suspect is in custody after a shooting in Pasadena.

Two other victims received minor to moderate injuries in the shooting, a Pasadena Police Department spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Police say officers came under heavy, direct gunfire by John Izeal Smith, 35, when they arrived on the scene at the 1700 block of Summit Ave. Police received a call reporting gunfire at 4:20 p.m.

There was a standoff, during which the suspect called the police department's communications center. Its staff convinced the suspect to turn himself in. Police are urging people to stay away from the 1700 block of Summit Ave. while they continue to search the area.

The name of the victims are being withheld until their families can be notified. No officers were hurt.
