The Belgian romantic thriller re-teams Schoenaerts with his 'Bullhead,' 'The Drop' director Michael R. Roskam.

French actress Adele Exarchopoulos, star of Palme d'Or winner Blue Is the Warmest Color, has signed on to star opposite Matthias Schoenaerts in The Faithful, a Belgian-set romantic thriller from The Drop director Michael R. Roskam.

The project, which Wild Bunch is selling at Toronto and which Pathe is releasing in France, re-teams Roskam and Schoenaerts, who worked together on The Drop and Roskam's 2011 feature debut, the Oscar-nominated Bullhead.

Acclaimed French screenwriter Thomas Bidegain (A Prophet) penned the script to The Faithful together with Noe Debre. The duo co-wrote this year's Cannes Palme d'Or winner Dheepan. The film is a noir tale set against the backdrop of criminal gangs in Brussels. Both Dheepan and Bidegain's directorial debut, Les Cowboys, have their North American premieres in Toronto Saturday.

Stone Angels and Savage Films are co-producing The Faithful, with shooting set to start next year.
