The golf star will also serve as executive director and consultant for the series of 2K sports games.

Tiger Woods has struck a longterm partnership with video game publisher 2K.

The deal includes rights for Woods' name and likeness to appear exclusively in the PGA Tour 2K golf simulation franchise, as well as any other golf-themed games published by the company. Woods will also serve as executive director and consultant for the aforementioned series.

Additionally, 2K will acquire HB Studios, developer of PGA Tour 2K21 — which, upon its release in 2020, became the fastest selling golf game in a decade — in the first quarter of this year (previously, the studio was a privately-held independent company). HB is headquartered in Nova Scotia, Canada and includes console, mobile and PC games among its portfolio. It joins 2K's family of fully-owned studios including NBA 2K developer Visual Concepts, Hangar 13, Cloud Chamber, Fireaxis Games, Cat Daddy Games and 2K Silicon Valley.

"I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen," Woods, 45, said in a statement. "I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together," he added in his statement.

Financial terms of both deals were not disclosed.

"In golf, there is no bigger icon than Tiger Woods. Like the rest of the world, we were saddened to hear of his recent accident, and we wish him a full and smooth recovery," said 2K president David Ismailer. "We have been eager to announce our partnership with Tiger, whose legendary career has transcended the sport. We are thrilled to have him join our PGA TOUR 2K series as an executive director."

Last month, Woods was involved in a severe car accident in which he sustained multiple fractures and required surgery on his right leg. After initial treatment at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center, he was transferred on Feb. 25 to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to continue orthopedic care and recovery.

Founded in 2005, 2K is a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, which owns Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer Rockstar Games. 2K's portfolio includes major AAA games such as NBA 2K, Bioshock and Borderlands, while a recent release was Mafia Definitive Edition last August.
