The actor will play an anti-war campaigner whose son was killed in Iraq.

Tony Blair's controversial decision to take the U.K. to war in Iraq in 2003 has seen him come up against a host of British celebrities over the past decade. Tim Roth is set to be added to this list.

The Reservoir Dogs actor will take the lead in Reg, an upcoming BBC drama about the father of a soldier who was killed in the invasion. Reg Keys was a former ambulance driver who would become an ardent anti-war campaigner and eventually stand as an independent candidate against the then British prime minister in the general election.

Written by Jimmy McGovern, a stalwart of British television with credits including Cracker and The Accused, Reg also will star Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane, Philomena) as Key's wife, Sally.

"To have stellar talent, Tim Roth and Anna Maxwell Martin, playing such important and pivotal roles is testament to Jimmy’s honest and gripping writing," said BBC drama commissioning head, Polly Hill.

"With the combination of talent and such a heart-wrenching true story, Reg is sure to bring something unique, special and memorable to BBC1."
