The Turner networks are tapping into the Canadian-based online publishing platform to adapt stories, starting with M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming 'Tales from the Crypt' block.

Turner's TNT and TBS networks are pacting with Wattpad storytellers online to develop projects for TV.

The first project from the new partnership, unveiled at the Banff World Media Festival, will be Tales from the Crypt, an upcoming horror block from TNT and executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan. Online publishing platform Wattpad is home to more than two million writers that create hundreds of millions of original stories.

Toronto-based Wattpad established a studio to bring its online stories to new platforms, including film and TV. The pact with Turner will see TNT source content for itself and its sister network TBS.

TNT and Wattpad will invite writers to bring their story ideas via contests and other venues to be unveiled as part of Turner's profile on Wattpad. Slated to premiere next year, the Tales from the Crypt horror block will offer weekly terror and suspense curated by Shyamalan, who is also executive producing Wayward Pines.

In addition, the deal includes Turner securing access to Wattpad insights and data to assist identifying fresh talent and trends across genres and pop-culture. "Our partnership with Wattpad is a perfect intersection of content and fan engagement, where fans actually have the chance to directly influence and, in some cases, even have their material optioned and developed by our networks," said Justin Williams, senior vp digital ventures for TNT and TBS in a statement Monday.

Williams added, "We're especially excited to kick off our collaboration with a focus on TNT's Tales from the Crypt horror block, which will tap into Wattpad's strength in the horror genre."
