The $10,000 award will be part of the main competition prizes and is being run jointly with Wowow, Japan's biggest satellite TV network.

TOKYO – The Tokyo Film Festival will feature a new $10,000 Viewer's Choice Award for its main competition, in conjunction with Wowow, Japan's largest satellite network, with the winner chosen by a panel of six subscribers.

Footage from this year's festival and the selection process for the winner of the award are scheduled to be shown at a ‘Touch! Wowow 2014’ event on Nov. 22 that will feature TV broadcasts, related online content and live elements.

Wowow subscribers who wish to be considered for the selection panel will be able to apply to be members this summer, with details announced later this month.

The 27th edition of Tokyo International Film Festival will be held from Oct. 23 to 31 at Roppongi Hills, TOHO Cinemas Nihonbashi, and other venues.
