Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant are scheduled to attend the festival's opening Oct. 25.

The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is to open Oct. 25 with Stephen Frears' Florence Foster Jenkins.

Stars Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant are due to walk the red carpet at the Roppongi Hills complex in central Tokyo.

The U.K.-France co-production tells the true story of a New York heiress, played by Streep, who pursued a singing career blind to the fact that she had a terrible voice.

The film had its world premiere at the Belfast Film Festival on April 23, and was released in the U.K. on May 6 and in the United States on Aug. 12.

TIFF will run until Nov. 3 and the closing film will be Yoshitaka Mori's Satoshi: A Move for Tomorrow, also based on a true story, the life of shogi (Japanese chess) master Satoshi Murayama, who fought a debilitating disease.
