'Tokyo Girl' among late sales

Edko, Media Story pick up rights at Pusan

More Pusan festival coverage

BUSAN, South Korea -- Japan's Tokyo Broadcasting System has sold "Tokyo Girl" to Hong Kong's Edko Films and Korea's Media Story, TBS said Tuesday.

The Kazuya Konaka-directed time-travel fantasy was the only Japanese film that has made a successful transaction at the Asian Film Market, which wrapped its four-day run Monday.

Japanese sellers have been getting offers, but most have made a deliberate decision to close deals at the upcoming American Film Market instead, said Miyuki Takamatsu of TBS, which also generated interest in Busan with the disaster film "Pandemic" and "I'd Rather Be a Shellfish."

Still, the was positive news even the day after the market ended as sales of the $9 million-earning Taiwanese megahit "Cape No. 7," repped by Taiwan's Good Films Workshop, are close to completion.
