Based on the 1982 comedy film, the musical adaptation features a book by Robert Horn, music and lyrics by David Yazbek and choreography from Denis Jones.

The musical of Tootsie will embark on a North American tour at Shea's Buffalo Theatre in New York, producers Scott Sanders and Carol Fineman announced Thursday in a statement.

"We are thrilled that audiences and critics alike have fallen in love with Tootsie — from our world premiere engagement in Chicago to Broadway — and we are very excited to share the laughs with audiences across the country and globe," said the producers.

Based on the 1982 comedy film by Sydney Pollack and starring Dustin Hoffman, the musical adaptation of Tootsie features a book by Robert Horn, with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and choreography from Denis Jones. Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, On the Twentieth Century) helms the production as director.

Leading the Broadway company of actors is Santino Fontana, with Lilli Cooper, Sarah Stiles, John Behlmann, Andy Grotelueschen, Julie Halston, Michael McGrath and Reg Rogers.

The tour will commence in fall 2020, though casting and exact details have yet to be revealed.

Among its recognitions, Tootsie has received 11 Tony Award nominations as well as the 2019 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best musical.

In addition to its North American tour, several international productions are confirmed to open in London, Australia and Japan.
