TORONTO - Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment has grabbed the U.S. rights to the Canadian indie zombie pic Dead Before Dawn 3D, which stars Christopher Lloyd and was directed by April Mullen.

The U.S. theatrical date is yet to be announced.

“The acquisition by Gaiam Vivendi reinforces the fact that there’s a healthy appetite for independent 3D films if the content is right," Andre Relis, president of VMI Worldwide, which handles international sales, said Monday.

Dead Before Dawn 3D follows college kids who accidentally unleash an evil curse that causes people to kill themselves and turn into zombie demons, or zemons.

Lloyd plays the occult shop-running grandfather of Casper Galloway, played by Devon Bostick.

The ensemble cast includes Martha MacIsaac, Brandon Jay McLaren, Brittany Allen (All My Children), Kevin McDonald, Ellen Dubin and Rossif Sutherland.

The film, shot in stereoscopic 3D, was written by Tim Doiron, who also produces with Mullen.
