Toronto: 'Lady Bird' International Rights Go to Focus

Greta Gerwig's feature, starring Saoirse Ronan, will be released domestically by A24.

Focus Features has acquired international rights to Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird and will handle all territories outside of North America, where the film is being distributed by A24 in partnership with IAC Films.

The story of a high school teen, the film stars Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf and will be released domestically Nov. 10.

Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Evelyn O’Neill served as producers.

"With Lady Bird, Greta has proven herself to be both a brilliant illusionist and a towering filmmaker," Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said Monday in announcing the acquisition of the pic, which was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. "She tricks us into believing this is an intimate story about a specific character, time and place until the culmination of the laughter and the tears makes you realize it's actually a grand epic that is as universal, relatable and emotionally powerful as any story of mothers and daughters that has ever been put on film."
