David Garrett will produce the indie about 'Breakaway' star Singh being coaxed into an ill-suited arranged marriage, before eventually finding love with his wife.

As Netflix's Indian Matchmaking reality show stirs debate around the Indian custom of arranged marriages, David Garrett and his U.K.-based Mister Smith Entertainment banner is attached to produce Dating After Marriage, a true life drama written by and starring Prem Singh and Michael Pugliese, via their Running Tiger Films banner.

Canadian filmmakers Singh and Pugliese are following up their boxing movie Tiger, starring Mickey Rourke and Pretty Little Liars alum Janel Parrish, with an indie based on Singh's real-life experience of being coaxed by his parents into an arranged marriage in India, before eventually finding love by finally being allowed to date his wife in Canada.

"The whole concept is very unique, winding the clock back and building the relationship after the family has stepped away and the wedding is over," Garrett told The Hollywood Reporter about Dating After Marriage.

Canadian-born Singh a decade ago became engaged and eventually married a young woman from India that his parents chose, only to discover he and his wife were unsuited to a life together. But rather than call it quits, Singh and his wife decided to date for the first time ahead of finally falling in love.

"It's a long delayed journey and it has a modern feel," Singh adds about the script he's penning with longtime business partner Pugliese.
