Toronto: Yorkville a Ghost Town After Fest Move

The festival's change in location leaves the district on the wrong side of the tracks.

Festgoers, be advised: It’s no longer hip to hang around Yorkville with a laminate around your neck. Now that Toronto has shifted to the Bell Lightbox theater complex in downtown’s Entertainment District, the tony uptown shopping enclave has become a ghost town.

A Hazelton hotel employee says he spotted a couple of “studio types” fussing over their badges. “We’re not downtown anymore, take that thing off,” he overheard them saying. “We used to see the badges all the time,” adds the employee. “But now it’s like, ‘Oh, you’re up in Yorkville, not at the Lightbox — don’t wear that thing around here!’ ”
