SILVERMAN-CUOCO WEDDING: Electus head Ben Silverman wed longtime girlfriend Jennifer Cuoco on Dec. 18 in Jerusalem. The pair said “I do” in front of 125 guests, including Lauren Zalaznick, writer David Benioff, former William Morris Agency head Jim Wiatt, Tony DiSanto and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat. The groom donned a custom-made suit by designer Ozwald Boateng (who also attended). Guests took tours of the city and the Dead Sea before the ceremony.


Thor star Chris Hemsorth wed his girlfriend of less than a year, Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, during the Christmas holidays in Indonesia.

Josh Epstein, senior vp corporate and advertising sales strategy at MTV Networks, married Molly Patrick, senior merchandising director of Coach, on Dec. 10 at the University Club in New York.


Natalie Portman and Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied announced they are engaged and expecting a child.


Elton John and partner David Furnish adopted a baby boy, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. He was born Christmas Day in California via surrogate.

Chris McGurk was named chairman and CEO of Cinedigm National Cinema on Jan. 3.

Aaron Meyerson was tapped as president of programming and development at CBS Television Distribution on Jan. 3.

NBC Universal Television Entertainment chairman Jeff Gaspin has joined MGM’s board of directors. The board also will include former Pixar CFO Ann Mather, former CBS CFO Fred Reynolds, former MySpace president Jason Hirschhorn and MGM co-CEOs Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum.

David Mumford, executive vp planning and research at Sony Pictures Television, expanded his duties and now oversees global research operations.

Rene Rigal was hired as vp motion picture development and production at Virgin Produced on Dec. 20. Michael Forman was named vp scripted television, and Barrick Prince is now vp unscripted television.

CBS Sports tapped Jennifer Sabatelle as vp communications Dec. 20. Gerard Caraccioli also was tapped as executive director of communications.


Iranian director Jafar Panahi was sentenced Dec. 27 to six years in prison and banned from making films for the next 20 years after backing an opposing candidate in last year’s presidential election.


Anne Francis, who earned an Emmy nomination for Honey West and starred in Forbidden Planet, died Jan. 2 from complications of pancreatic cancer in Santa Barbara. She was 80.

Bill Erwin, best known as Sid Fields in the Seinfeld episode “The Old Man,” died Dec. 29 in Studio City at 96.

Star Wars visual effects Oscar winner Grant McCune died Dec. 27 of pancreatic cancer at his home in Hidden Hills, Calif. He was 67.

King of the Hill writer-producer Aron Abrams was found dead Dec. 25 in a hotel room on the big island of Hawaii.
