'Transformers 3' won't bow in 2011

Monday announcement had wrong year, Michael Bay says

Everybody agrees on this: There will be a "Transformers 3" -- eventually.

On Monday, Paramount slotted a DreamWorks-produced "Transformers 3" for July 1, 2011, even while acknowledging that no cast had yet been attached. On Tuesday, director Michael Bay took issue with the date.

"Paramount made a mistake," Bay wrote on his blog. "They asked me on the phone, (and) I said yes to July 4 (weekend) -- but for 2012. Whoops, not 2011! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots."

A first sequel -- "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" -- is set for wide release June 24, with Shia LaBoeuf and Megan Fox reprising their topline roles from the 2007 original.
