Transformers: Age of Extinction grossed $5 million (300 million rupees) over its opening weekend, according to local distributors Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The studio said this is the third-highest opening figure ever for a Hollywood film in India.

The highest opening weekend for any Hollywood film here was recorded by The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which collected $ 6.92 million (417 million rupees), according to Sony Pictures India. The film opened in India on May 1, ahead of its U.S. opening. The second-biggest opening film was the previous Spiderman installment, 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, which grossed about $5.7 million (340 million rupees) over its first weekend (Friday to Sunday).

As with any major Hollywood release here, Transformers also went out in English and dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil and Telegu when it opened on June 27. Viacom18 said the film opened on about 1,400 screens in 770 locations nationwide.
