'Transformers' drives to top of boxoffice chart

"Transformers" continued its triumphal march at the North American boxoffice on Friday. For the day, the Michael Bay-directed action film, a DreamWorks/Paramount Pictures co-production, took in an estimated $22.5 million, according to the studio. That brings the movie's domestic cume to an estimated $107.4 million.

In second place, Buena Vista's "Rataouille," from Pixar Animation Studios, also maintained its momentum, picking up an estimated $9.4 million for the day as its cume hovers around the $90 million mark.

Managing to fend off competition from "Transformers," 20th Century Fox's "Live Free or Die Hard" held on to third place with an estimated $5.4 million.

Warner Bros. Pictures' "License to Wed," the week's other new wide arrival, had to settle for a fourth place showing with an estimated $3.7 million.

Filling out the top five, Universal Pictures' family comedy "Evan Almighty" took in an estimated $2.9 million.
