Traverse City fest taps 'Water'

'Julie & Julia' chosen for closing night

Erik Poppe's "Troubled Water" will serve as the opening-night film of Michael Moore's Traverse City Film Festival. The Norwegian film centers on a young man, just released from prison, who is forced to confront his past.

The July 28-Aug. 2 fest will close with Nora Ephron's "Julie & Julia," starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.

Moore will host a 20th anniversary screening of his film, "Roger & Me" that will feature guests from the film. The fifth annual Michigan festival also will pay tribute to director Paul Mazursky, who will attend.

Films from the Middle East will appear in two sections, dubbed "Greetings From Tehran" and "Palestine and Vine."

"We're bringing at least one, maybe two, Palestinian filmmakers," Moore said. "At this time in history, more than ever, we need to hear voices from that part of the world that are not filtered by the Western media."
