Trevor Noah Defends Melania Trump's Hurricane Stilettos
"In Melania’s defense, she lives in a permanent disaster zone, and that’s what she always wears.”
Trevor Noah usually takes digs at the Trump family on The Daily Show, but on Tuesday he came to First Lady Melania Trump's defense.
Melania faced backlash when she left for a trip to visit Houston Hurricane Harvey victims wearing a pair of black stilettos. By the time she touched down in Texas, the First Lady had changed into white sneakers.
Noah, didn't see why this was a topic of conversation at all. After speaking about the missile that North Korea launched over Japan yesterday as an important story that deserves continuing coverage, the host expressed disappointment that instead Americans focused on Melania's shoes.
"People weren’t talking about the nuclear missile that Kim Jong-un tested, because Melania Trump apparently did something much worse,” said Noah. "She went to Houston wearing high heels."
“Here’s the thing, I don’t know why anyone should care what anyone wears when they’re on their way to help people. Who cares?" said Noah. He joked that Pope Francis dresses in all-white, "like he's going to a P. Diddy party," and he's not judged for what he wears when he helps people.
While Noah added that he understands people who criticized Melania for wearing something like that on her way to a disaster zone, he thinks she should get a pass. "In Melania’s defense, she lives in a permanent disaster zone, and that’s what she always wears.”
