Trio a slam dunk for 'Season'

Sam Rockwell, Emma Roberts, Rob Corddry join cast

NEW YORK -- Sam Rockwell, Emma Roberts and Rob Corddry will topline writer-director James Strouse's high school comedy "The Winning Season."

Gigi Prods. and Plum Pictures are producing the tale of a has-been coach (Rockwell) who is given a shot at redemption when he's asked to run the local high school's girls basketball team. Roberts is cast as a player he befriends, and Corddry will play the school's principal. Shareeka Epps, Emily Rios, Margo Martindale and Jessica Hecht also star.

Gia Walsh and Kara Baker will produce for Gigi, and Celine Rattray, Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Galt Niederhoffer will produce for Plum. The New York-based companies are readying the film for an October shoot in the region. Pam Hirsch, Dan Crown, David Sweeney and Rockwell will executive produce.

Plum produced Strouse's Sundance award-winning drama "Grace Is Gone" and director Steve Buscemi's film version of his screenplay "Lonesome Jim." Gigi has several projects in the works, including Ned Benson's feature debut "In Defiance of Gravity," starring Joan Allen and Jamie Bell.
