Trio pact for HD 'Challenge'

Singapore, Chinese, U.K. companies back restoration series

HONG KONG -- A trio of Singaporean, Chinese and U.K. firms have pacted to co-produce an HD documentary series, "Monumental Challenge."
The series of six one-hour episodes will take a close-up look at restoration work that is underway to save half a dozen of the world's top monuments.
The venture involves Singapore's Oak3 Films, and MediaLab; China's China Intercontinental Communication Centre; and the History Channel from the U.K.
Singapore's Media Development Authority has been a consistent agitator in favor of HD content in Asia.
Also connecting Europe and Asia, the MDA and regional U.K. funding body South West Screen are to set up a "multi-platform content across continents" funding initiative.
The two public bodies will provide GBP25,000 ($41,300) of development funding to each of two projects with multi-platform potential and cross-media elements. Particularly targeted are children's content, animation, drama, documentaries and factual programming. The initiative is billed as the first of several twinning Singapore and the town of Bristol in southwest England.
