The movie, set to unspool during the BFI London Film Festival next week, is a contemporary romantic drama inspired by Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles.

Shot in India, the movie premiered during the Toronto International Film Festival last month.

Winterbottom directed and also produced with Melissa Parmenter for Revolution Films with Bankside aboard as a financier.

Other backers include the U.K. Film Council, VTR Media Investments, Bob Film Sweden, Film I Vast and The Swedish Film Institute.

The deal was negotiated by Artificial Eye managing director Louisa Dent and Bankside sales and marketing chief Stephen Kelliher.
