'True Grit' Leads Vancouver Film Critics Award Competition With Four Noms

'True Grit,' 'The Social Network' and 'Black Swan' to challenge for the best film honor at January 10 kudosfest.

TORONTO – The Social Network, True Grit and Black Swan will challenge for the best film honor at the Vancouver Film Critics Circle’s upcoming awards.

The organization, which will announce award winners on Jan. 10, said Joel and Ethan Coen’s True Grit led the international field with four nominations. David Fincher’s The Social Network snagged three noms, including Jesse Eisenberg contending for best actor against Colin Firth in The King’s Speech and James Franco for 127 Hours.

And Fincher will go up against Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan and the Coen brothers for True Grit in the best director competition. T

he best actress contenders are Jennifer Lawrence for Winter's Bone, Natalie Portman for Black Swan and Annette Bening for her star turn in The Kids Are All Right.

The Toronto Film Critics Association earlier joined the herd of North American critics by naming The Social Network as its best picture of the year.
