'Truth About Men' cast gets to work

New Zealand production will move to Berlin in November

SYDNEY -- "The Truth About Men," a romantic comedy about marriage and bad sex, began production in New Zealand this week with an international ensemble cast, producers said on Thursday.

Australians Joel Edgerton and Les Hill, English actress Rhona Mitra, German actor Thomas Kretschmann and New Zealander Danielle Cormack, star in Paul Middleditch's directorial debut.

Written and co-produced by Kiwi political cartoonist Tom Scott, the film, which will move production to Berlin in November, comes from New Holland Pictures, the Australia-based company run by co-producer Mark Overett.

New Holland saw success this year with the release of the Australian version of Dutch feature "Unfinished Sky," one of the top-grossing local films at the Australian boxoffice.

The New Zealand Film Commission and NZ On Air provided financing, and public broadcaster TVNZ bought the New Zealand broadcast rights. Hoyts Distribution bought Australian and New Zealand rights to the film, set to be released in Australia in late 2009.

The film was pre-sold in Holland, Belgium and Luxemburg by Independent Films and in Indonesia by Queen Imperial, and German sales company K5 International is handling international sales.
