'Truth' slips but still dominates

NEW YORK -- Fox's "Moment of Truth" faltered Wednesday in its second outing, falling 23% compared with last week's premiere. But the Fox reality series remained dominant in the hour and was second only to "American Idol" for the night.

"Moment of Truth" averaged 17.9 million viewers and a 7.8 rating/19 share in adults 18-49, according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. That's down from last week's stellar premiere (23 million, 10.2/24) but still nothing to sneeze at. "Idol" was down 6% in viewership and fell 9% in viewership week-to-week.

Little could get any traction against either show, including the two-hour repeat of last season's "Lost" finale (8.5 million, 3.3/8) ahead of tonight's premiere and an original episode of NBC's "Law & Order" (11.1 million, 3.1/9) that was beaten in the hour in 18-49 by "Lost."

Fox (21.6 million, 8.9/22) won the night in all demos over ABC (7.6 million, 3.0/8); CBS (7 million, 1.9/5); NBC (9.9 million, 2.6/7); and the CW (1.2 million, 0.5/1).
