'Tsunami' gets twin billing in Canada

TORONTO -- Canadian premium pay TV channels Movie Central and the Movie Network on Monday said they will air HBO Films' "Tsunami, The Aftermath" simultaneously with its Dec. 10 U.S. premiere.

Movie Central, the western Canadian pay TV channel operated by Corus Entertainment, and the Movie Network, run by rival broadcaster Astral Media Inc. in eastern Canada, will air the two-part miniseries Sunday Dec. 10 and a week later on Dec. 17, the same nights it airs on HBO.

The miniseries, which stars Toni Collette, Tim Roth and Sophie Okonedo, portrays personal stories of those caught up in the Christmas 2004 natural disaster that wreaked havoc in South and South East Asia.

The twin Canadian premium pay TV channels have traditionally aired a host of HBO and Showtime original series and miniseries to draw domestic viewers and complement their original homegrown offerings.
