Japanese subsidiary to buy from security company Secom

HONG KONG – Turner Broadcasting System's subsidiary Japan Entertainment Network is to acquire Japan Image Communications Co. from top security service provider Secom Co., in an effort to expand TBS’s business in the production and distribution of branded channels, and to become more locally relevant in the country.

Japan Image Communications runs five CS broadcasting channels through cable, satellite and IPTV platforms in Japan, including Nittere Plus, Act On TV, and FOX Life, and Tabi Channel and MONDO21, the latter two provide original programming. The deal will broaden the channel offerings of TBS’s Japan Entertainment Network, which before the deal mainly operates Cartoon Network Japan and has a reach of 6.5 million Japanese cable, satellite and IPTV households.
