Turner Animation hires Freeman

NEW YORK -- Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media has named former Nickelodeon integrated marketing and promotions senior vp Brenda Freeman to the newly created position of chief marketing officer.

Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group, meanwhile, announced that it has promoted Samantha Maltin to senior vp integrated marketing and partnerships. While the position is not exactly the same as that held by Freeman, Maltin will manage the same team, a network spokeswoman said.

In Freeman's new role, she will provide overall vision and leadership to all areas of marketing, on-air and trade creative services that support the cable television networks Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, along with their online businesses, and the digital enterprises GameTap and Super Deluxe, Turner said. Her duties will include developing the strategic marketing plans directed at building these businesses among key constituencies -- viewers, users, ad sales clients, promotional partners, affiliates and industry trade communities, Turner said.

Freeman, who started her new position this month, is based in Atlanta and reports directly to Stuart Snyder, executive vp and COO.

"Brenda brings with her an impressive track record of experience and leadership that has helped build the growth and success of several major entertainment and consumer brands," said Snyder, who oversees the Turner Broadcasting System portfolio of media properties.

"With our multiple media properties now aligned under a single umbrella covering kids and young adults, we wanted to install a formidable marketing visionary who could leverage the assets of each business to help build and increase their collective impact."

Meanwhile at Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group, Maltin will be responsible for developing global partnerships with U.S.-based companies, and will oversee the expansion and execution of all promotions marketing efforts, both on- and off-air.

She will manage relationships between the Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group assets, including Nick Jr., Noggin, the N, Nicktoons Network, Nick at Nite, Nickelodeon magazines and Nickelodeon's digital assets, and partners such as movie studios, Mattel, Hasbro, Procter & Gamble, Chrysler, Nintendo, Kraft and General Mills.

"Samantha has a perfect blend of experience for this role with her knowledge of all the Nickelodeon Kids and Family assets and her history managing some of our top marketing partners," said chief marketing officer Pam Kaufman, to whom Maltin now reports.

A 10-year MTV Networks veteran, Maltin was most recently vp of Viacom Brand Solutions. She has also served as a vp in Nickelodeon's promotions marketing department.

In Freeman's previous role at Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group, she oversaw development and execution of all promotions marketing efforts for Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Noggin, the N, NickToons Network, and Nick at Nite, as well as Nickelodeon magazines and Nick Digital businesses.

Before Nickelodeon, Freeman was vp consumer marketing at VH1 and vp affiliate marketing, Entertainment Group, at MTV Networks. Before joining MTVN, Freeman was executive director of marketing and special events for ABC Radio Networks held a number of strategic consumer marketing and product development management positions for Frito-Lay served as a marketing, operations and financial executive for Mobil Oil in its consumer retail and distribution businesses.
