ITV awaits Punishment

ITV could face a fine of as much as £4 million ($7.9 million) for defrauding viewers in premium-priced phone quizzes, potentially the largest ever to be imposed on a British broadcaster. Executives are nervously awaiting media regulator Ofcom's judgment after an independent investigation found that viewers wasted £7.8 million ($15.4 million) calling in to competitions they could not hope to win. A decision is expected next month.

Rainbow exec Elevated

Mike DiPasquale has been upped to executive vp operations at Cablevision-owned Rainbow Media. He oversees operations for 11 Penn TV, a unit that oversees Rainbow Media's New York studios and postproduction activities; Rainbow Network Communications, the company's full-service network programming and distribution company; and Rainbow's creative services, information systems, research and facilities departments. He will add oversight and management of PVI Virtual Media Services, which provides real-time virtual enhancement technology solutions for television.

Babelgum's 'Frontiers'

Internet TV platform Babelgum has struck a worldwide content deal with PBS and plans to showcase "Scientific American Frontiers" as part of the agreement. Babelgum will be the only Internet TV platform to offer 18 episodes of the series worldwide on its dedicated PBS Channel, which launched Tuesday. Babelgum also will make available the largest online collection of free PBS documentaries and nonfiction programming in North America as part of the alliance.
