Vin Di Bona Prods. has picked up the rights to Nippon TV's "Masquerade." Billed as Japan's longest-running series, the show's contestants use costumes, props, sets and their bodies to create live visual performances that trick the eye. Di Bona will shop the concept in an effort to produce a U.S. version.
That's a lot of 'Friends'
"Friends" might make it into the Guinness Book of World Records when all 236 episodes of the sitcom are broadcast consecutively beginning Saturday on German digital pay TV channel Sat.1 Comedy. The marathon will end at 10 p.m. Wednesday after running about 100 consecutive hours.
CanWest unveils sked
CanWest Broadcasting unveiled a fall schedule Wednesday that ties its fortunes to new and returning NBC Universal and 20th Century Fox series. The Canadian broadcaster rolled out 13 new series for its two national nets — E! and Global Television — including NBC Uni's "Knight Rider" and Fox's "Dollhouse."
Cattrall gives voice
Kim Cattrall has joined the voice cast of the Canadian primetime animated sitcom "Producing Parker," which is set to bow on Canada's E! network in spring 2009. She will play Dee, the host of a daytime talk show.
John McCain and Barack Obama have taped spots for Lifetime honoring the service and sacrifice of America's military families ahead of Sunday's second- season bow of "Army Wives."
