A&E's 'Cleaner' picks up viewers

"The Cleaner," A&E's first scripted series in more than six years, averaged 2.6 million total viewers in its debut Tuesday night. The Benjamin Bratt drama doubled the network's year-to-date primetime average (1.3 million) and was the most-watched cable show in its 10 p.m. slot, but it didn't reach the numbers of A&E's June miniseries "The Andromeda Strain" (4.9 million over two nights) or the network's record-breaking off-net premiere of "The Sopranos" in January 2007 (4.3 million).

Simmons hears 'Jingles'

Gene Simmons has signed on as the head judge on Mark Burnett's reality series "Jingles," on which contestants vie to compose commercial ad tunes. "Jingles" is set to launch next season.

Petersen exits 'CSI'

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" star William Petersen is leaving the CBS drama as a regular but will return for occasional guest appearances and continue as an executive producer. His last episode (for now) is eyed for early 2009.

Comcast taps Palmer

David Palmer has been named to the newly created position of senior vp brand development and talent alliances at Comcast Entertainment Group. He is charged with maximizing exposure associated with brand extensions in partnership with franchises across E! Entertainment, Style Network and G4.
