Kevin Beggs, president of TV programming and production at Lionsgate, has been elected president of the Hollywood Radio & Television Society to serve the 2008-10 term. He succeeds ICM's Chris Silbermann. The other newly elected HRTS officers are vp Zack Van Amburg, co-president of programming and production at Sony TV; treasurer Martha Henderson, executive vp and manager of the entertainment division at City National Bank; and board of directors secretary Michael Wright, head of programming at TNT, TBS and TCM.
New speaker at new Wave
New Wave Entertainment has upped Andrea DeLesDernier to director of communications, overseeing all aspects of corporate communications, publicity and media relations at the production and marketing company.
ABC has picked up "Wipeout" for a second season. The network ordered 16 episodes of the reality series, which likely will debut next summer. "Wipeout" has been the No. 2 series this summer behind NBC's "America's Got Talent" among total viewers and Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" in the adults 18-49 demographic. It's also the highest-rated freshman postseason series for any network in three years in the demo, going back to Season 1 of "Dancing With the Stars."
MyNet makes toast
"Shaken Not Stirred," five one-hour specials featuring top urban comedy talent and personalities in a modern-day version of the classic celebrity roast, will premiere in the fall on MyNetworkTV. The shows will feature "toasters" Anthony Anderson, D.L. Hughley, Paul Rodriguez and John Salley roasting celebrities including Bobby Brown, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Run, Ice T and Pamela Anderson.
COMEDY BACKS NYCF
Comedy Central has signed on as the national TV partner for the fifth annual New York Comedy Festival in the fall. The multiyear partnership was unveiled Wednesday as the festival announced a chunk of its talent lineup, including Frank Caliendo, Louis C.K., Craig Ferguson, Carlos Mencia, Tracy Morgan, Sarah Silverman and Katt Williams. Comedy Central will produce a special at the festival that will premiere in early 2009, provide digital-media support and look for other content opportunities.
