TV Guide Net hires programming exec

Diane Robina will oversee original development, acquisitions

TV Guide Network is underscoring its new emphasis on programming with the appointment of cable veteran Diane Robina to the newly created position of executive vp development, acquisitions and programming strategy.

In addition to her duties at TV Guide, Robina will continue as president of multiplatform network FearNet, a joint venture among Lionsgate, Comcast and Sony Pictures TV.

It was Robina's relationship with TV Guide's co-owner Lionsgate through FearNet that led to her gig at the cable network. She already had been working behind the scenes, playing a key role in the acquisition of "I Dreamed a Dream: The Susan Boyle Story," which became TV Guide's highest-rated special to date, and in the acquisition of off-net rights to HBO's comedy "Curb Your Enthusiasm," which will debut this year.

During a long tenure at MTV Networks, Robina was programming architect for Nick at Nite and TV Land. She also was executive vp and GM at Spike TV predecessor TNN, shepherding the channel's rebranding.

Robina joined Comcast in 2006 as head of Comcast Emerging Networks, including flagship FearNet.directed.
